Birds singing, a soothing sound,
Water wheel turning, leaves abound,
A place that once was warm and sweet,
Suddenly brought back to my feet.
I can't sleep but wonder,
What's on the other side, I ponder,
Is it a desolate and barren land,
Or a place with beauty so grand?
But now the silence echoes loud,
Only the birds can break the shroud,
Their songs a reminder of the past,
A time that just could not last.
